WRKit App

Project Overview
I've always been a fan of fitness, and for my final year project at IxD Belfast I combined my passion for exercise and problem solving.

Inspired by my experience attending different Crossfit gyms, I decided it was the perfect case study with easy access to users from its community based platform.
The Problem
No centralised place to record data to educate users on their performance, are they getting fitter, stronger, faster?
The Solution
An app where users can follow gyms to record scores, times, weights on workouts. Discover events they may be interested near them, with additional features such as the plate calculator to quickly calculate how much weight is on the barbell whether it is lbs or kg.
The Process
Research
The first thing to do was gather the data to understand if the problem I had observed was actually a problem for others. I created a survey using Google Forms and sent it across the Crossfit community in Northern Ireland. Once I had the data to prove my idea had purpose I began to immerse myself in the market of workout journal apps, researching features and business modals. I also created User Personas ranging from beginner to advanced, as I wanted the app to be inclusive, like the community.
Rapid Prototyping
Low fi wireframes & Usability testing
I began to sketch ideas and wireframes, considering user flows. When a concept started coming together, I built a prototype using Balsamiq and knit together the interactions using Invision. I tested the concept usability with real users to gather insight into how interactions were perceived, identify problems and learn more about the target users' behaviour to ensure I would create a product that was intuitive and easy to use.
UI Design & further testing
Hi fi wireframes & A/B testing
Through the rapid prototyping stage we achieved a flow that met user needs and expectations. Now it was time to bring the idea to life, creating the brand and adding visual flare. It is important to me that target users are involved in every stage of the process, here they helped provide feedback on ideas presented and using A/B testing they were able to vote on preference of two concepts. By contributing to the creation of this product, users were able to feel empowered and valued.
